Vineyards & Cellar Doors
Discover the boutique wineries of the Matakana Coast, one of New Zealand’s most diverse wine regions. Pinot gris, chardonnay, merlot, pinotage, sangiovese, pinot noir.
Discover the full flavours and stunning vineyards of the renowned Matakana wineries.
For more than 40 years, wine growers have been drawn to the fertile, sun-soaked hills of the Matakana Coast and the warm, maritime climate reminiscent of Tuscany or Bordeaux.
Now home to more than 65 hectares of boutique vineyards planted with one of the most diverse selections of grape varietals in the country, the Matakana region produces beautiful wines to tempt every palate.
Alongside exceptional white wines including chardonnay, pinot gris and albariño, you’ll find classic reds such as merlot, cabernet sauvignon, syrah, pinotage, pinot noir and sangiovese, all hand-picked and tended with care.
Most Matakana wineries are family-owned and welcome visitors to the cellar door (some by appointment only), where you can experience the philosophy of the winery and meet the winemakers who bring such passion, curiosity and dedication to their terroir.
If you’re pressed for time or it’s late in the day, call into The Vintry Wine Bar in Matakana. The Vintry serves as a shared cellar door for all the local wineries and offers a tasting room experience across local wines.
Just remember to take home a bottle or two, so you can savour those Matakana memories. Take a look at the Matakana Wine Trail Map and take a self-drive tour. Learn more about the Matakana Winegrowers Association.
