Morris & James pottery was founded by Anthony Morris in 1977. With a hugely varied and beautiful range of handmade ceramics, the pottery remains a local icon and a visit to the showroom is on the must-do list for Matakana’s many visitors.
The Morris and James showroom allows you to browse through the extensive collections of ceramicware, from large statement pots to colourful platters and wall follies, and everything in between (including one-off pottery creations and seconds that you won’t find on their website).
Free factory tours run every day at 11:30am, which provide a fascinating glimpse ‘behind the scenes’ into the factory itself, how the clay is collected and pots are thrown, plus a little bit of the pottery’s history over the last 40+ years.
A children’s play area and the courtyard cafe is on-site, allowing you to enjoy a coffee or lunch when you stop by with family or friends.
